Learning and Executive Functioning Specialist
Lisa Behrman, M.S.Ed. is an educational specialist whose primary goal is to help struggling readers and writers succeed. She earned a Dual Masters in Elementary Education and Reading and Literacy from Bank Street College of Education. Lisa taught at P.S. 77 Lower Laboratory School for Gifted Education in New York City, before starting a private tutoring practice.
Lisa employs a wide repertoire of programs to help children acquire reading, writing, organization, and study skills. She uses her rich background in PAF (an Orton Gillingham-based program), Explode the Code, Itchy’s Alphabet, Lindamood Bell, and Great Leaps, to help children build phonemic awareness, decoding, and fluency skills. Lisa also infuses children with the joy of writing by systematically teaching strategies to build writing skills across content, genre, form, and function. Through her ability to diagnose and understand the underlying causes of reading and writing deficits, as well as her ability to implement multiple teaching methodologies, Lisa has achieved great success in helping children.
In addition, Lisa specializes in assisting students who have difficulty with executive functioning skills. in order to achieve long-term success and form lasting study and organizational habits, she utilizes a step-by-step approach to teach students effective time management, organizational skills, critical thinking, self-monitoring and metacognitive skills, memory strategies, study skills, and test taking approaches.
Lisa tailors the treatment program to each individual’s needs and learning styles so that children progress and achieve success. Lisa works with students on a variety of reading and writing issues including: beginning reading/literacy, decoding and encoding, reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing strategy, and organization and study skills.
