Debra Beal, M.A., OTR/L
Debra Beal, MA, ORT/L has been working with children and their families for 20 years. She completed her undergraduate Occupational Therapy studies at Boston University and earned her Master’s degree at New York University (NYU), with an emphasis on pediatrics and developmental disabilities. She continued at NYU for her Doctoral work, with a focus on school based OT services and multi-disciplinary collaboration for classroom success. Interested in the study of the whole child and mind/body connections, she helps each child achieve success in their home and school environments.
Debra has worked and supervised in a variety of settings, with individuals from pre-school age through adulthood. At the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation at NYU Medical Center, Debra treated neurological and orthopedic issues. She served as a supervisor at the Williamsburg Developmental School, where she provided treatment to children with medical, educational, and sensory integration needs. She consulted at private schools in New York City, and worked directly with children and parents in both therapeutic gym and home based environments.
Debra currently specializes in the assessment and treatment of children with developmental, neuromuscular and sensory processing difficulties. She fosters improvements in fine motor coordination, visual motor/perceptual skills, postural concerns, and work behaviors including: attention, organization, and task persistence. Through Debra’s close work with parents and teachers, she is able to ensure generalization of newly acquired skills and increase each child’s availability and enthusiasm for learning. At Westchester Child Therapy, Debra provides comprehensive assessments and therapeutic intervention.
